While HEC's
| About Us | |||||
| Many people ask us why we started a new conservation organization. We formed Habitat Education Center (HEC) for several reasons. First, most other Wisconsin based environmental groups focus on air and water pollution. HEC focuses on wildlife whose populations suffer from a lack of strong advocacy and habitat protection. Second, scientific support behind ecological campaigns in the Upper Midwest needs to be stronger. HEC is the only statewide group with its own Ph.D. scientist, Resource Ecologist and toxicologist Dr. Dave Zaber. To further support our education and campaign projects, HEC conducts video taped interviews with leading botanists and biologists. Third, much of the Environmental movement has chosen to mimic giant special interests with polling, expanded management and planning meetings. We at HEC feel that by having smaller budgets, non-profits will yield lesser results than their larger budgeted opponents if they use the same methods. Knowing that our opponents can't match us in speed or traditional grass roots methodology, HEC has chosen this route. HEC decision making is very streamlined and non-bureaucratic. With over 42 years of experience in the field, our staff doesn't need three levels of decision making bureaucracy to come up with successful solutions. HEC's rapid and continued success is proving us right. | |||||
